- Hazard
- In chondrodystrophic (long-backed, short-legged) breeds, repeated stair use and jumping on/off furniture put repetitive strain on the spine, raising the risk of intervertebral disc disease (IVDD) — herniated or ruptured discs that can cause pain, wobbliness, or hind-limb paralysis. Dachshunds have a relative IVDD risk roughly 10-12 times higher than other breeds.
- Notes
- Ramps or steps for couches/beds, and carrying the dog up and down stairs, are common ways owners reduce this risk day to day.
