Hazard

Carries the same obstruction risk as socks, plus an added danger from the elastic waistband: it can act as a 'linear foreign body' — anchoring at one end (often under the tongue or further down the GI tract) while the intestines try to move the rest along, bunching (plicating) the gut around it. This can saw through the intestinal wall and cause a life-threatening perforation and infection.

Notes

If you see string-like material looped under your dog's tongue, do not pull on it — this can worsen internal damage. Get to a vet immediately either way, even before symptoms appear.
