Socks

dog severe

Go to the vet immediately โ€” don't wait for symptoms.

Hazard
Whole socks are a leading cause of intestinal obstruction in dogs, especially small and medium breeds โ€” most modern fabrics don't break down in the stomach, and a lodged sock can cut off blood supply to the intestine. Symptoms (vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, abdominal pain) can take 12-72 hours to appear, so a dog can look completely normal right after swallowing one even as a blockage forms underneath.
Notes
Don't wait to see if it passes on its own. If you saw or strongly suspect your dog swallowed a sock, call a vet immediately โ€” caught early (before it leaves the stomach), it can sometimes be retrieved by inducing vomiting or endoscopy instead of surgery.
